Health, Safety & Environment
A zero-harm culture, applied without exception across every terminal, every shift, every day.
Health Policy
Nord Terminals Kotka Oy provides occupational health surveillance for all roles involving exposure risk, including regular hearing, respiratory and chemical-exposure screening.
On-site medical response capability is maintained at every terminal, with trained first responders present on every shift and direct links to regional emergency medical services.

Safety Policy
A permit-to-work system governs every task with elevated risk, from hot work to confined-space entry, verified by a qualified authoriser before work begins.
Personal protective equipment requirements are standardised group-wide, and every terminal maintains its own dedicated safety officer reporting directly to the terminal manager.

Environmental Policy
Secondary containment, continuous groundwater monitoring and marine spill-response equipment are maintained at every terminal, tested against real conditions on a fixed drill schedule.
Environmental performance data is published internally each quarter and shared with regulators and port authorities on request.
Emergency Response
Every terminal maintains its own trained emergency response team and mutual-aid agreements with neighbouring facilities and port authorities.
On-Site Response Teams
Trained firefighting and first-response crews staffed on every shift at every terminal.
Mutual Aid Agreements
Formal agreements with neighbouring industrial sites and port fire services for major incidents.
Quarterly Drills
Full-scale emergency exercises conducted at minimum every quarter, with unannounced spot checks.

Risk Management
Formal hazard identification and risk assessment processes cover every operational activity, revisited whenever equipment, procedures or products change.
Bow-tie analysis is used for major-accident hazard scenarios, mapping preventive and mitigating barriers so gaps are identified before they become incidents.
Incident Prevention
A strong leading-indicator programme catches small deviations before they compound.
Near-Miss Reporting
An open, blame-free reporting culture means small deviations are captured and corrected before they escalate.
Behavioural Safety Observation
Trained observers conduct structured walk-arounds, reinforcing safe behaviour and correcting at-risk practices in real time.

Employee Training
Every terminal role has a defined competency framework, with refresher training scheduled automatically through our learning management system.
Specialist certifications — confined space, hot work, marine loading — are tracked centrally, and access privileges are automatically suspended if a certification lapses.
