Nord Terminals Kotka Oy head office

Built on discipline. Trusted for decades.

Nord Terminals Kotka Oy is an independent operator of petroleum storage terminals, dedicated solely to the safe, precise handling of our customers' products.

Company Overview

An independent operator, by design

Nord Terminals Kotka Oy provides third-party storage and handling infrastructure for petroleum, biofuels and chemical products. We do not trade the commodities that move through our tanks, which means every operational decision is made in the sole interest of the customers who lease our capacity.

Headquartered in Kotka, Finland, the company today employs more than 640 people across six terminals on four continents, supported by shared engineering, quality assurance and digital operations standards.

Our Story

Company History

A single berth on the Gulf of Finland

Nord Terminals Kotka Oy is founded with one jetty and 40,000 m³ of fuel-oil storage, serving regional distributors along Finland's south coast.

Expansion into refined products

New tankage and a dedicated blending facility allow the terminal to handle gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to international specification.

First international terminal — Rotterdam

Acquisition of a Europoort facility marks the company's entry into the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp trading hub.

Gulf Coast and Middle East entry

Terminals commissioned in Houston and Fujairah extend the network into two of the world's busiest bunkering and export markets.

Asia-Pacific network complete

Jurong and Zhoushan terminals open, connecting Nord Terminals Kotka Oy to Singapore and Chinese import demand.

Group-wide sustainability programme

A ten-year decarbonisation roadmap is adopted across all six terminals, covering electrification, vapour recovery and renewable power.

Our Mission

To provide the world's energy supply chains with independent, safe and precisely operated storage infrastructure — capacity our customers can plan around without compromise.

Our Vision

To be the terminal operator of choice for the energy transition — expanding low-carbon storage capability while sustaining the highest standards of conventional petroleum handling.

What Guides Us

Core Values

Safety First

No commercial pressure ever outweighs a safety decision, at any terminal, at any time.

Integrity

We report what we measure — inventory, incidents and performance — without exception.

Reliability

Customers plan cargoes and contracts around our commitments; we treat that trust as infrastructure.

Respect

For our people, our neighbours, and the coastal and marine environments we operate within.

Leadership Philosophy

Authority sits with whoever is closest to the risk

Terminal managers and shift supervisors hold the authority to halt any operation they judge unsafe, without needing head-office approval. Leadership's role is to give them the training, procedures and equipment to make that call correctly — not to second-guess it afterward.

This principle extends into how we plan capital projects, set staffing levels and structure incident reviews: decisions are made as close to the operating deck as competence allows.

How We Operate

Operational Excellence

A single operating standard, applied consistently across every terminal in the network.

Standardised Procedures

Every terminal follows the same permit-to-work, tank-gauging and custody-transfer procedures, audited on a common schedule.

Digital Terminal Management

Tank inventory, scheduling and maintenance data flow through one integrated platform, visible to customers in real time.

Continuous Investment

A rolling capital programme keeps tanks, jetties and pipelines ahead of both regulation and customer demand.

Safety Culture

Safety at Nord Terminals Kotka Oy is not a department — it is the operating condition every other activity depends on. Every employee and contractor completes site-specific safety induction before setting foot on a terminal, and every shift opens with a toolbox talk.

Near-miss reporting is actively encouraged and reviewed weekly at terminal level, feeding a group-wide lessons-learned database shared across all six sites.
